How To Position Your Studio Monitors
Positioning your studio monitors are extremely important while you are mixing and recording. Today we are talking about the proper way to set up speakers in your studio.
Monitor Height
First, your speakers should be aligned evenly at the proper height. What we mean by this is that the speakers should be even with the height of your head. The top of your head should be aligned with the top of your monitors. See the image below for a better understanding.
Monitor Placement
The left and right monitors should be placed at two points of an equidistant triangle, with your head being the third corner of the triangle. Make sure to angle both speakers to your listening position. Usually, both speakers should be 30° from the center. Make sure to avoid placing the back of your speakers 1m and 2.2m from the wall that they are against. The reason for this is to reduce low frequency noises and will help to keep the frequency response as flat as possible. Place your recording equipment as symmetrically as possible, this will give you the best overall balance. Check the image below to get a better understanding.
These are the proper steps to setup your studio monitors for the best overall experience. Keep in mind that room treatment ( like acoustic panels & tiles) will play an important role in your listening experience. We suggest to properly treat your room as well.
